Last year I was gearing up to run the Ascent for the first time. Training for that race was fun, grueling at times and full of new challenges.
The Ascent of 2008 was one of the coldest and wettest ones of the race’s history. I’m glad I ran the race. I was very glad when it was over. I did not sign up to run the race again this year. I know, I was a chicken!
This year I get to volunteer at the race. I’ll be 10 miles up Pikes Peak Mountain, 3 miles from the top at A Frame. We have an early start (4 am!) and a hike to bring supplies to the aid station. I’m looking forward to giving back this year.
The volunteers of last year ROCKED! I could not have made it without their encouragement, those awesome black garbage bags and lots of water. I am excited to give to be one of them on Saturday.
I’m hoping to run the race next year as mother to three! It has been amazing to see all the court cases pass this week. I have been working on staying positive about our court case next week. It’s been a job to be thankful for our delay/hiccup/bump in the road.
I am looking forward to a mountain race to distract my job at being thankful and waiting patiently!
If you are running the Ascent, I’m looking forward to see you near the top!
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
