Hi, Melodie. I am Carol's daughter. I watched Forks over Knives last night on Netflix. Wow, I think we will be changing a few things around here even more. ;) I'd love to chat more about life and foodie things with you. I hope my e-mail will show up for you.

Yeah! You will love it! We like the option of having as little coffee as we like at different times of the day without wasting a pot?

My dad was the director of an inner city mission. He faced this issue often and had many ask him what to do. If they were close to the mission, he would often offer to take them there to get a warm shower, free meal, soft chair to sit in. Many missions will give you cards to hand out giving directions to the local Gospel Mission. Ultimately they can get more than food at these places. My hubby once took a guy into McD's and bought him a meal and sat with him to talk. We know money can help but what is harder to give is time. Do we take the time to sit with them, get to know them, bring them actual food instead of assuming they'll use money for that purpose. It's an age old question and a good one to wrestle with. As a woman, I can't always help in that way so instead I see the encounter as one to awaken my thankfulness. My brother's family used to carry boxes of Saltines in their car. They often met a homeless woman near their home and would always give her some crackers and water/juice. The kids would look for her excited to find something she could use.

This is beautiful Melodie. It is good to be reminded to be thankful for the KIND of work we do. We do not have to dig our food out of the ground for our children, or sell our bodies for money. It puts it all into perspective when it's time to grumble about the 10 loads of laundry or the clogged toilet!
