10 Things you might not know

When the weeks grow long with caring for sick kids, it’s easy to want to either feel sorry for myself or escape.  Escaping sounds really good right about now.

I want to run away, pretend my present life doesn’t exist and live in dreamland for a while.

That isn’t the healthiest (or realistic) way to live right now so I thought I’d reflect on some of the more adventurous and fun things I’ve done with  my life so far.

So here are 10 things you might not know about me.

1.  As a senior in high school, I climbed Mt Kenya and Mt Kilimanjaro, in Kenya and Tanzania respectively.  LOVED every minute of it!

2.  I’m an introvert.  I prefer spending large amounts of time with myself.

3.  I speed read.  I don’t read every word on the page.  It drives Matt crazy as I don’t always retain the entire story but I can get through books fast!

4.  I learned to sail a boat in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Kenya.  After being hit a few times by the sail, I learned pretty fast to move when the command was given.

5.  My first time to Disney World was when I was 19.  I cannot count the times I’ve been there since!

6.  My junior year of college I was part of a team of four who backpacked through Europe for 6 weeks.  We lived out of hostels and visited over 15 countries.  I would say that was one of the hardest summers of my life.

7.  I had been to 13 African countries by the time I was 19.

8.  I taught myself how to bake by reading cookbooks.  I made my first loaf of bread at 9.

9.  Heights terrify me.  I could not apply for the Amazing Race due to this fear.  I hate tall buildings, elevators and anything that peers over some kind of ledge.

10.  I’ve been running since I was 13 but didn’t actually run my first marathon until I was 31.

I love the new look! My mom didn’t pass on her ability to speed read to me, but she did pass on the fear of heights. You can have your zipline and high ropes course thank you very much! ;-)
