Every once and a while I get it. I mean, I realize how important it is to be a present parent and actually enjoy the moment.
Today. I got it. My sweet son was in tears when he heard his friend would not be on the trip. But he perked up after Desta and I told him all about the complete bliss awaiting him at the Spotted Pony Farm (well, maybe Desta just jabbered nonstop as she is inclined to do these days and I used words).
When I get it, its rewarding. I saw Tobin love hearing about all the farm animals (Get ready Munich relatives, I think Tobin will be heading your way one summer not too far away to work on the farm!) He was in absolute heaven when he got on that horse.
The joy in his eyes, the delight in his speech. It was worth rearranging all my plans and forfeiting a nap for his sister (which we all paid for dearly this afternoon…but was worth it, I kept convincing myself!).
A child’s delight is infectious. It’s so worth it to get it!
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
