11 pm Police Visit

policeOur little part of town doesn’t see too much excitement, especially the police kind of excitement.  In fact, in the few years we’ve lived here, our house has been the only house to bring any type of siren  and that was for a medical emergency with our daughter (last year…she is fine now and has not suffered a seizure since).

Last night Matt went to set our home alarm system.  It’s very touchy and went off, sirens blaring, etc.  I immendiately shut it off and we expected a call from our alarm company to verify the trip of the alarm.  Well, apparently I did not have the right code word (I’ve never had use it before) and said the wrong word twice.

We thought all was well and went to bed only to hear a loud “THUNK” a few minutes later.  Since our dog didn’t bark, we thought it was my imagination.  THEN a very BRIGHT light began flashing in our bedroom.  I walked outside in my little summer pajamas, hair askew due to going to bed with a wet head (lesson learned last night..I will not be lazy and do that again!) and was asked by the bright flashlight, “Please step all the way out of the house.”  Okay, I wasn’t going to argue with that!

The alarm company had called the police because I gave the wrong alarm code.  Yep, they were at our house.  The alarm company had also called my mother in law but would not tell her what was going on. All she knew was that there was motion in our house and the police had been dispatched. She called but we were busy giving the police our driver’s licenses to verify our identity and could not answer the phone. Poor Mimi, talk about a heart attack waiting to happen!

We did in fact check out (I think our blurry eyed expressions and  pajamas  might have contributed to proper identification).  I was very pleased (now that the event has passed) to see how fast both our alarm company and police responded.  If there ever was trouble in the future, I feel very reassured that we will be well taken care of!

I don’t want to experience something like that any time soon though!

Did they silence the dog? I would think that men in the house with flashlights would make the dog go wild! It doesn’t compare, but I thought there was a bear on my mom’s porch last night. Too bad she has neither flood lights or a good flashlight to verify.

ha ha! someday we’ll meet in person and I’ll tell you about the time a car thief was chased into our front lawn and the police copter hovered over our hose with flood lights. I was afraid the neighbors would NEVER speak to us again. at least we can all rest assured that “the men and women in blue” were out to help you!
