Many of you know that I was born and raised in Africa, daughter to missionary parents. I had the privilage of living on the Atantic Ocean in Liberia, West Africa for almost 9 years. We were on furlough when civil war broke out and were not able to return.
I still keep Liberia close to my heart and was pleased to see the political changes in that country occur these past few years. My sister is currently working on her Ph.D from Oxford on the topic of African migration to the USA, specifically Washington, DC where she works (Correct me Shelly, if I have the facts slightly mixed up!). Yesterday she and her husband attended an independent film viewing of the documentary, “Iron Ladies of Liberia.” This film is about Pres. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and her first year in office. She said the producers did a great job of giving an inside scoop on the challenges Ellen faces and how she handles them. It is sobering, entertaining (even funny at points), and educational all at the same time.
It will be playing on PBS on Tuesday, March 18. Check out the preview.

Happy watching. I’d love to hear your opinions of the film!
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
I checked our local station, it’s on at the end of the month. I am looking forward to watching the program.
It’s great you have a local group of friends adopting/who have adopted!
