Tobin turned four today. He was up at 4 am, ready to open his gifts and get on with the day of celebration. Mommy and Daddy…not ready that early! So, around 5:30 am, with a pot of coffee brewing, the day began.
After donuts (this is Tobin’s favorite…which I can’t figure out as we really don’t eat donuts in our house) for breakfast (thank goodness they were all going off to school today–that was a serious sugar high!), gift opening time, spending 30 minutes per gift to take out of the box (okay, slight exaggeration but seriously people, do you really need to tie EVERY playmobile piece to the cardboard box?), and rushing out the door to get to school on time, I was ready for a swim.
See, I’m trying a new tactic with my running…that would be cross training. Duh I know…but it is working. So swimming and spinning are part of my running world now.
Got in the pool, this time WITHOUT having to share a lane (that is a miracle in and of itself at our local Y) and started swimming.
That’s where the WHOLE NEW KIND OF SWIMMING kicked in. In the same pool, just a few lanes over, a lovely group of senior ladies (oh about 35 women) had just begun their water aerobics class. And boy are they into their class! Circling, kicking, waving their arms…seemed like quite a workout!
BUT it made for a whole new world of swimming. I was in OPEN WATER baby. There were HUGE waves, especially as these dear ladies in their shower caps (gotta keeps those baby blue curls perky) started their “weight lifting” segment.
So, I have now decided I am officially ready for a triathlon. Over 40 minutes in that pool today has prepared me for 10 foot waves, legs in my face and a timed race.
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
Now you just need to don your swimming cap and join in the wave-making!
