Matthew found a copy of the Message for Kids. The illustrator used to work for Disney and the copy is very simple with questions to ask as you read the Bible stories to the kids.
Caroline, Tobin and I found ourselves on the couch yesterday afternoon, reading the creation story. The beginning is a great place to start don’t you think?
I kept reading the phrase “And it was good” as God describes the various things he creates. My mind began wandering. God’s plan was always to create a perfect Garden for us. He wanted us to live in constant companionship with him. Adam got to live side by side with the animals and name them. (We came up with some of our own names for fictitious animals…Like “Mumuma” and “Orcho”–creative don’t you think?) Everything worked. There was harmony. There was goodness.
I lay in bed last night thinking of our daughter in Ethiopia. I’ve been thinking of the famine in Ethiopia. We were talking with a friend about one of the realities of adoption in Ethiopia is that the mother just cannot feed her child. She has to surrender her baby because she knows that by keeping him or her, they will not survive. This is not good.
I am waiting for the day when God brings forever redemption to our world. When there will no longer be famine or pain or grief. I am waiting for the day when all will be good.
Until then, I live in the hope and promise that day will come. I must live in the knowledge that God is working out his plan.
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.

I agree with Wendi…well said! Don’t think I could have said it any better!
