Weekends around here are usually spent with Matt and I on a date, the kids going to a movie or some other random activity that costs a bit of cash.
This weekend? I had a great 2 and 1/2 hours with my running partner and friend. She treated me to a caramel latte and we had some great conversation. The grocery store adventure only cost me $105 this week. I was over by $5 due to a floor cleaning disaster that required the purchase of a cleaning supply. Oh well!
The kid’s activities? Caroline got to swim with two best buddies at their pool. FREE! Tobin? Well, he enjoyed Wii tournaments with Daddy. Matt and I? We had friends over for homemade margaritas and this amazing dip.
I am finding that 1. yes, saving money requires more thoughtful preparations and 2. creates an atmosphere of spending time together. So far I’m liking this routine!
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
I definitely noticed more planning ahead. It was a recurring theme: plan ahead. But we had way better experiences together.
