Tobin was so excited for his first soccer game yesterday. We had been to Walmart and purchased the shin guards (which had been worn all week in anticipation of the Saturday practice). Soccer shirt, shorts and socks were put on as soon as he woke up yesterday. Tobin was ready!
Fast forward to 11:30 and game time. Tobin has decided that snack time, potty breaks and water breaks are much more fun than the actual activity of listening and following instructions from Coach Rogers. He has invented a new sport of lying on the soccer ball (maybe it is more controlled?). But all in all, he is ready for another week of play.
I was reminded how different boys are from girls yesterday as I observed the game. They were frantically kicking balls all over the gym. Some boys were obviously used to being close to mom and cried for much of the practice. Their energy filled the room. It’s fun to begin new adventures with your kids. While Tobin’s future will probably not involve playing professional soccer, he had so much fun and in the end, that’s all that matters.
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia. This blog began as a way to chronicle the journey to getting our third daughter through adoption. I have found that since I began writing, this blog has become a place for community, support and a safe place to share about my LIFE.
