Making time for each one; it's a tough job!

Preparing to bring Desta home was very exciting for our entire family. Caroline prayed for months for her baby sister, that she would be kept safe and healthy.  We talked to both Caroline and Tobin about how our time would be tight at first, that we would love them no less and that our family would be different but better.  We prepared them as best as we knew how.

Now almost three months after stepping off the plane, the honeymoon is officially over, especially in our daughter’s eyes. The adjustment to having a baby in the house has been biggest for her.  She used to the princess of the  house, Daddy’s ONLY girl and had lots of attention from him (and me but at this stage of life, Daddy’s time is more important, many times,  to her).

We have spent many hours talking to her, arranging one on one dates, attempting to really invest in her and let her know that yes, life has changed but for the better!

Last night Tobin was asked to be on Mrs. Claus’ float for the Light Parade in downtown.  He was thrilled so we bundled up, left Matt home with Baby D (as Tobin now affectionately calls her!) and headed down.  It was bone chilling cold.

Caroline and I staked a corner, grabbed some hot chocolates and hunkered down.  We talked, saw the floats, and cheered like crazy when we saw Tobin coming up (in the picture, he’s the one with the  orange  jacket sleeve waving frantically to all!)

Due to the cold and late hour, there was quite a bit of bickering in the backseat on the way home.  I reminded myself that some day, this will be a memory for them.  I hope that Caroline sees I’m trying my best to meet her needs.  It’s not easy, this delicate balance of caring for three precious lives.  But to me, it’s worth the challenge and crazily enough, my mind keeps wondering over to what it would be like to have four!

Thanks for letting me know you’re still out there! I agree, making time for them individually is hard! But I’m sure Caroline knows you’re doing the best you can…or at least she will eventually ;o) And soon enough Baby D (too cute) won’t be a baby anymore and won’t require quite so much of your undivided attention.

Glad you guys are doing well and settling in for the long-haul! I can’t wait to hear all about Christmas!!! And I can’t wait to see what new tricks Desta comes up with next!
