Music of the land

I have always loved African music.  Our high school graduating class sang a South African song, “Good bye Africa” during our ceremony (I’d love to get a copy of this song one day!) I think of that song all the time.

While in Addis, I asked Robel for some good Ethiopian music.  Gigi is a favorite Ethiopian artist of mine and I wanted to add to my collection.  He directed me to the singer Zeritu Kebede.  Amazing voice!  I have been listening to her music nonstop and find myself stopping short on track 6 and crying.

The song:  Yane.  I’d love to know what she is singing about.  For now, settle in and enjoy the lilting voice, haunting melody and rest.

That was hauntingly beautiful! Do I have to go to Ethiopia to get her music?
