We met Desta for the first time. It was a surreal experience, standing outside a building and being handed your daughter.
She has changed so much in the past month. I’ve changed so much in the past month. We have all changed. We are a family of five, not four. That alone is a big change.
In this past month, Desta has learned to hold her head by herself. She can roll over. She is beginning to not mind having to stand on her legs for short periods of time. Desta can grasp objects now. She discovered her voice and yesterday, discovered how fun it is to blow bubbles, with her own spit. Oh my! Her brother likes that one!
She is a baby filled with joy! We all laugh and share in her joy. She smiles constantly, is happy unless hungry or dirty.
I don’t want to paint the picture that our entire life is one big happy smile right now. I think bringing home a baby is much different from a toddler or older child. We also experienced some very intense days in the hospital that demanded instant bonding. I call our time now our honeymoon. I know it won’t last forever. I see inkling of a very strong, mighty and independent little girl in Desta. Look out when she starts to become active. I can only imagine!
But for now, we are joyfully and wondrously enjoying this honeymoon period.
Pictures I posted are taken the first day we met her and last night. What a different baby!

I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
She’s beautiful. What a blessing… hope the honeymoon lasts a long time!
That photo in ET was one of my favorites!
God is so good. Continued blessings on you all as you love and grow and change.
Precious.
I can’t believe you’ve already been home a month! I am so thankful that she is doing well and am praying that the honeymoon never ends! Please go kiss her perfect face for me!
She is Breathtaking.
