Yesterday was an exquisite Colorado winter day. It was a high of 60 degrees (in January!) and hardly any wind.
I decided to take advantage of the weather and walk to the shopping center to get some errands done.
Walking home, I had several hills to climb. The sun was starting to set as I began my hill climbing. I got caught in a long stretch of shade. It was cold in the shade. I wished I had a warmer jacket on. Mentally I began plodding, putting one step in front of the other, seeing the sun on the trail ahead of me.
That walk brought our adoption to mind. I feel that in this part of the adoption journey, we are in the shade. It’s not dark or frigid, just unpleasant. I’d rather be in the sun, feeling the warmth of the rays. I can see the sun, the meeting of our daughter, ahead of me. For now, I just need to put one foot in front of the other.
That’s sometimes really hard to do.
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
Beautiful picture…the sun is rising for you, I know it will be soon!
