Rabboni!

Tobin has had a fascination with reading his children’s Bible lately. Each week I faithfully trek to the library and pick out educational, age appropriate stories to read at nap and bedtime. Those books have been discarded for the Children’s Bible, the Message.

So, I’ve been brushing up on all the Bible stories.

Today he wanted to read the “one about Jesus with a cross and cuts.” (ie the Crucifixion story). Personally I wouldn’t find this story to be my pick prior to slipping off into dreamland but hey, it’s his book and his time.

After reading the crucifixion account, I thought we should probably venture into the next chapter and end on a happy note–the resurrection.

I’ve read these stories a thousand times so wasn’t prepared for the “oh wait” moment.

Mary Magdalene is in the garden, weeping and very upset because her master is missing from the tomb. She is accusing this man in the garden of stealing her friend. She is a mess…probably mascara everywhere, hair disheveled (I bet she didn’t get around to washing it prior to the Sabbath so it was also very oily).

“Jesus said, ‘Mary.’

Turning to face him, she said in Hebrew, ‘Rabboni! meaning ‘teacher’.”

Immediately. She got it. She recognized his voice. He said one thing and she KNEW it was her master, her teacher.

Don’t we all want that in life? To be known by someone that intimately…to have someone just say one word and we know that we are connected?

what is it about little boys and the cross? At Igor’s request, we’ve been reading the same story for 6 months at bed time.
I loved what you said about hearing one word and being connected. I hope I have that with Igor…

I also wonder when/If Igor will recognize the whisper of God…. will Igor know Him so closely that Igor will know when God is speaking to him…

That is our prayer as a mama right? That our kids will “get it.” It took me more than 20 years to get it…hopefully less for our babies!
