Recovering…

So, I am officially recovering from two BIG birthday parties in a span of a week. We still have Caroline’s actual party to celebrate, but somehow, just family seems so much easier to handle than seven giggly seven year old girls!

I have learned a few things this birthday month go around. Here’s my amazing new knowledge (ha!)

1. Cookie cakes are the best. I used to think cupcakes. Nope, one big chocolate chip cookie, 20 kids and happiness all around with relatively little mess.

2. Always have wet wipes and hand sanitizer on hand for the birthday event. Snotty noses, bumped knees, dirty hands, all can be resolved with just a few swipes (I personally like the Walmart brand special)

3. Pinatas from Walmart are certainly cheap. They are appropriate for children under the age of 2..otherwise, spend the money and get the dang thing from the Party store. Our little pumpkin was beaten to shreds in just three whacks today!

4. I thought that two cases of Capri Suns would do the trick for 10 party members. Learn the rule…always triple, never double the drinks. Kids are ALWAYS so thirsty (could it be the sugar beckoning?) at parties.

5. Always, always, always have a birthday party with another friend. We had three birthday girls which meant three moms. I was THRILLED to only make the cookie and get the pinata. It is so liberating to NOT have to make the goodie bags, the invitations (oh wait, I did that but still..), etc, etc. Sharing is wonderful.

6. Sit back and enjoy the party. This year I wasn’t stressed over having the funnest (is that a word?) party for my kids. Nope. What they got was what they got. They were happy, I was happy and we all remember the party!

  1. Chocolate, Vanilla and Caramel says

I too absolutely refuse to let my kids’ parties be stressful for me. We tend to go easy. This year, we had a cake and ice cream party for my daughter for one hour on a Friday afternoon with mainly neighbors who were home anyway at that time. My son is not even getting a party. He’s turning 2 a few days after Thanksgiving, and we are just going to stick a candle in a piece of pie and sing Happy Birthday to him after Thanksgiving dinner. :) (Unless I somehow have time to bake and birthday cake a couple of days before Thanksgiving…probably not…)
