Thank you

Thank you for taking time to write me, encouraging me to keep on keeping on.  Hearing your stories and words of wisdom is such a gift.  Thank you.

I happened to get a call today to get Desta into the International Adoption Clinic in Denver.  We headed up at 7 am and had a two and half hour meeting with several specialists.  I learned some things that have helped connect the dots for us.

I have always thought Desta was older than the age they gave her.  The specialists put her closer to 9 months old based on her cognitive skills.  Motor skills on the other hand…more like a 4 or 5 month old.

Because of the disparity between her brain development and her ability to move, she is not getting enough stimulation to help her sleep.  That is a piece to the sleep puzzle.  I was also told to treat her the age we have had her, not the age she is.  So, we are dealing with a 7 week old.

There are other issues we are facing as well, ones that will bring many physical therapy sessions and will start with an x-ray tomorrow.

Knowing all these facts has helped me understand Desta so much better.  I am able to react to her in the appropriate ways.  And, the 2 hour drive up and back to Denver started her on the path to a good nap.  Yes she did, she slept the entire way there and the entire way home. AND (Kimber) she went to sleep at 6 pm.

So thank you all.  This blog has allowed me to release so many of my thoughts throughout the process and in turn, has provided me with invaluable wisdom from so many of you.

Oh my goodness–this is so interesting! I didn’t know such a clinic existed. So glad you got such good information!

wow! It sounds like this was very helpful and an answer to prayer for your wondering minds. And she slept. Hooray!

It always amazes me how the Lord brings pieces together when we can’t see things clearly. Some amazing insights and the information better fits with the general situation in African homes. Be assurred of our continued prayers. The workout in the clinic seems to have brought about the exhaustion so she would sleep. Keep looking up. We’re standing with you all the way!
