I’ve mentioned my strong dislike for American made holidays. Do we really need just one day to celebrate moms? Personally I would like to be celebrated every day. Or Valentine’s day? Seriously. Just one day where my loved one gives me a box of chocolates (or in my case, a 6 pack of gluten free beer)?
It is all a ploy called consumerism. I’m joking a bit here as I know there are some people who LOVE Valentine’s day (I have two little ones right here in this house). I enjoy making the day fun for them.
BUT when I go out to dinner tonight with Matt, it’s because it is the only night my sister had free to babysit for free. Nothing to do with the holiday, just so I’m clear!
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
Melodie,
I can appreciate your feelings about Valentine’s day. I too think it is consumer driven and ridiculous. However, today our pastor shared the origins of Valentines Day and I have a new outlook on it. You should google St. Valentine. If what our pastor shared is indeed truth, you might think of the day a little different. Just thought I would share, incase there is still a small glimmer that you might change your mind!
