Since rearranging my entire life to be gluten free, I’ve had some challenges along the way. This is the first marathon I’ve trained for being gluten free. The only gluten free energy gels I can stomach (and keep down) are Sharkies. Unfortunately they are packed in VERY large plastic wrappers, not conducive to storing in my handy dandy hydration belt.
My dear friend, Pam, now has to endure running with someone wearing a “gas cap.” Yep, that’s its name. I have little pockets in my cap that hold my many packets of Sharkies. While not too attractive (sorry Pam!) they do the trick and hold all I need for a run.
Here I am sporting my gas cap. We were around mile 19 of a 22 mile run. We thought the run was going to be a pleasant downhill. But no, the Greenland Trail was spectacular in both beauty and hills! My mantra was “the marathon can’t be this bad can it?”
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
You look like one bad mama jama runner!
