I’m feeling a bit strung out right now. Caroline’s school district called another snow day, on a day that only deserved, at the most, a 2 hour delay.
The morning began with a bang. Yep, one little boy decided that since getting up twice in one night wasn’t enough, he’d begin the day at 5:45 am!
And it has not stopped…oh no, the whining, the fighting, the complaining, the incessant bickering.
This really has turned into a season of grumps.
I tried to really make today fun. We went to the fun gym, we went to Chick fil A for lunch, then off to Hobby Lobby to get craft stuff. I mean really, wouldn’t you want to do that on a day off?
All I got was whining and fighting. No thank you, not a one!
They are currently in their rooms for some alone time. This mommy needs the alone time more than them I think.
It’s gotten me thinking though. Why have they been acting this way? Are they just tired or is this something they are seeing modeled to them?
Maybe my attitude has been less than stellar lately. I know that when I saw the big “school cancelled” on my computer screen this morning, my reaction was a bit of a whine and a grumble.
While I won’t excuse their behavior, I need to check my own. I have a feeling that if someone was following me right now with a reality camera, I wouldn’t like to see what would be showing.
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
Last week, I took my kids out of school early and treated them to a movie. Total “fun mommy” move on my part and I just wanted to spend time with them. What did I get? Whining over no candy, pushing each other over what seats to sit in (WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE IN THE THEATRE!!!!!) and not a single “thanks, mom.” Well, they said thank you after I told them to say thank you, but that doesn’t count.
I feel your pain.
Thank you Cathy…it helps to know I’m not the only one in this predicament! Yikes, I wonder what stories my mom has about me and my sisters! smile
