Sorry, I’ve lost count of what day we have been here. It’s been another tiring and long day!
We were able to get a driver and go to SIM International here in Addis Ababa. It was so fun seeing old friends and walking the grounds. My parents lived at the headquarters for a few years.
We also spent some time shopping at the local markets, getting some things for Desta and her siblings at home. I wanted to make sure to bring back a few things that she could have to signify her time here. We got some beautiful silver crosses for the girls (Caroline, Daddy picked out one in particular for you!), a little doll in traditional dress and many other fun things to remember our daughter’s culture and land!
The afternoon was filled rushing around the Transitional Home getting pictures for the many families still waiting for their children. For those who we took pictures for, we also got video for all your children. Due to the slow internet connection, we cannot upload the video here but will do so when we get back to the US.
I was especially touched to share a care package with a beautiful little three year old who saw her parents for the first time! The smile on her face made my heart sing. She is absolutely beautiful, in spirit and in face!
Desta is doing great. I think she has figured out two things:
1. When she cries, there will be at least one person who will come flying to her immediately!
2. When she’s hungry, she can eat as much as she wants. Currently she is eating 10 to 12 oz every 2 to 4 hours. Keeping it down and no diarrhea. Thank you for your prayers!!!
Tomorrow Matt and his mother will be going to a few of the AWAA orphanages. I will be staying at the guesthouse with Desta. I want to keep her free of as many germs as we can right now and get her good and ready for our flight on Friday.
We are all anxious to get home. There are three families here who still need God to move a mountain so they can bring their sweet children home. We are praying for them here as a family of travelers.
Several of the kids are coughing and sick. A few of the babies aren’t liking their current formula from the US and rebelling! ha!
- Tired Mommy, Tired Desta.
- Proud parents outside the transition home.
- Melody and Selam, one of the Nannies at the TH
- Isn't that sling awesome. Matt knows how to use those properly too!

I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
She looks great and so do you all!!!! I’m so glad she is eating like a champ!!! Continuing to pray for all the other things as well!!!
I love the new pics! Desta looks so comfy snoozing in her sling. I am so thankful that she is doing so well! We won’t stop praying!
Thanks for the photos – you totally made my week!
Melody!!!! CONGRATULATIONS you guys!! I’m so overjoyed for your wonderful family of 5:) I really hope to meet Desta one day!!! Good luck with your travels. I’m praying for you!
