Oh I’ve been nesting. I’ve been painting and washing and storing and organizing. While I’ve been in this baby mode (as an aside, it is really interesting to me that no matter if our child is born out of my body or meeting across the world, there is still this deep desire to nest and create a space just for her!), I’ve been preparing my heart for our daughter.
My mom sent me a cd of lullabies. I started listening to it a while ago but this song below struck home with me this week.
O little traveler, seems we’ve waited for so long,
O little traveler, come and rest here in my arms,
So much of life ahead, we will keep you safe and warm;
O little traveler, welcome home.
You’re on a journey, only God knows where you’ll go;
He’ll weave the tapestry and with our help He’ll sew
The story He has planned so very long ago;
O little traveler, welcome home.
Welcome home, welcome home, my child, where you belong;
And wherever you go all along life’s road,
May you know that you’re never alone;
Precious child, welcome home.
These cherished moments will hold tight when you have grown,
Teach you to find your wings, for soon you will have flown;
We’ll love with open arms, hoping you will always know
We’ll be here waiting, welcome home.
We all are travelers, each with a race to run;
We’ll stay together, but when all is said and done
We pray the way we live will lead you to the One
Who can truly say, “Welcome home. Precious child, welcome home.”

I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
That song is perfect and one I had not heard before! I’m always glad to find adoption related songs to use in the videos of my girls. And yes, nesting is not limited to pregnancy. I remember scrubbing floors in Spain before we left for China… even knowing that we’d have only a few months in that house after we got home.
LOVE this song! Thanks for sharing it! It’s so perfect … and yes, I feel like I’ve been “nesting” for years now as we’ve been waiting for this beautiful child that God has for us!
