I was moaning yesterday. About running. In Florida. On flat pavement. In 89 degree weather with 100% humidity.
Today I managed to get up before sunrise. A whole new world was once again opened for me.
I’ve read Born to Run. Great book. Inspired me to go out and buy chia seeds. (That trend lasted about a week….seeds sitting in my teeth isn’t really that pleasant) Well, Born to Run hit me around mile 4 today as I rounded the same corner, again, listening to Lady Gaga.
So off I went, to the beach. And I have found my new challenge.
Barefoot beach running.
Hard, harder than mountains I think. Maybe? I lasted 15 minutes. I have a new goal. A new thing to conquer. The beach. It feels good. Until tonight when my gluts protest the run of the am.
Disclaimer: I am not the runner in this picture but this is my view, down to the pier in the background. Yep, not the mountains but pretty spectacular in its own right!
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
I really enjoyed that book. And just walking on a beach is enough to make my legs scream after 30 min. Way to go!
Mel, Have enjoyed reading your blogs about the transition to Florida and your different attempts to figure out what running/exercising will look like in your new setting. You always land on your feet! This time, literally, as you run barefoot on the sand (sounds painful!). Have you started working yet? I just realized (with HORROR) that I didn’t send your recommendation letter. Still need it? I’m done my insane summer working schedule –i only working two days this week–so I REALLY CAN write one and have it to you within 2 days. I”m so sorry Mel.
