Bear Chase Race = DONE

It was a quiet morning; full moon with just the slightest breeze blowing.  PERFECT racing conditions.

About two months ago, Pam asked if I wanted to run the Bear Chase Half Marathon on September 30.  When she asked, it seemed like such a lofty goal.  I had just moved back to Colorado from Florida and I sucking air just to barely jog on the treadmill, let alone a mountain trail!

But Pam is very persuasive and I signed up.  BEST DECISION EVER!

The race was so fun; filled with rollings hills for the first few miles.  Then WHAM, a mountain, literally, to run up followed by three rivers to ford.  This race was created by runners for runners and it showed.  It was a well oiled machine (well, not the porta potty situation but there were woods…and it was dark!)  filled with great enthusiasm and runners.

This race will definitely be on my fall “to do” list in coming years.

The best part is that I really enjoyed myself.  I wasn’t shooting myself at mile 5 for signing up for the thing.  I even stopped at mile 8 and hung out with the staff for a few minutes.  (One of the best parts of trail runs is this feeling I have that I don’t have PR…it’s just a race to enjoy and have fun in.)

What’s next on the old running calendar?  Another race of course!  Probably something in December to keep these Florida spoiled bones out running in the cold.  Also, watching my kids run, especially my girls who LOVE being on the trails almost as much as I do.

*I’m kind of bummed that the pictures are all blurry…but it was 6:30 am and we were relying on runners so….
