The temperature outside is a high of 23 today. There is snow on the ground, the wind was whipping around earlier. Not a great day for running outside.
So Pam and I changed plans and I ended up at the gym. You’d think that would be a great place to get a good, long work out in right? I mean if they can spend hours at the gym on Biggest Loser, I could certainly handle an hour and half right?
Wrong! I had a terrible workout. I felt sick, my stomach hurt, my legs were like lead. It was like pulling teeth to finish an hour.
When I went to pick up Desta from nursery, I was met by the cheery child-watch lady. “Did I have a good workout?” Nope. BUT I did it, it’s done.
That’s life sometimes right? It doesn’t go the way you imagined it in your head. There are things that seem so very hard to do, but you get through it and it’s done, the task, the relationship, the job that needed to be done. And once at the end of the hour, it’s done for the day.
And I know that not all runs are like today’s just like not all days are drudgery and hard. There is another workout for tomorrow and it will be better. And if it’s not, then I’ll just plow through that one until the next time.
I was born in Jos, Nigeria many years ago. I spent the next nineteen years living in Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia.
Very wise my friend. Today I’m finding satisfaction in cleaning two bathrooms… a task that has seemed insurmountable for too long making me consider hiring my first ever cleaning lady. But I didn’t… because I’m cheap and prefer to spend my money on lattes. The task wasn’t easy but now it’s done. And how convenient that it took place on the first day of Spring!
